As far as I know, DOT3 is dedicated for normal use of the car. For severe conditions as fast driving, irregular roads, much slopes... DOT4 is more suitable because of high ebullition point. On the other side, DOT4 needs to be changed nearly twice often than DOT3.
On my Terios J2 the book recommends both DO3 and 4. But on the brake fluid cap it is written DOT3. it means that the manufacturer just provide the car with minimum requirement for normal use.
Well, I'll change it and see.
