okay...I finally made good use of the time while on ICT instead of sleeping in the Spec Mess :P Since I have the use of a bench vice at my 'workplace' I've cut open the two oil filters we were discussing about in this
thread.
<Flashback>
P/N : 15601-87107-000 (from STS, made in Indoneasia) on the left
P/N : 15601-87703-000 (from Tokyo Roki Japan) on the right
here I cut them open and laid the innards out "rifle inspection" style.

I've also labeled some of the parts....
if you can remember from the previous thread, the Indonesian made filter is rusty on the outside...
it is also rusty on the inside...
on the left is the Japanese made filter while the right shows the Indoneasian made one.....Notice the Indoneasian made one has straighter and neater pleats of the filter media compared to the Japanese one.
so I'll cut a strip out of both filter cartridges for better comparison..
Japanese on the left, Indoneasian on the right
the Japanese filter media feels softer to touch, like some form of hard sponge-like material, but tougher to cut and tear. While the Indoneasian filter media is actually cardboard and tears easily. In fact, while I was able to pull out the Japanese filter out in one complete strip, the Indoneasian made filter media tore into many small pieces as I attempted to pull it out.
---to be continued again... next I will try to rig up some simple setup to test the filtering capability of both filter media---
<edited for sheer stupidity>
